River Rock as a Road Trip Base: Practical Driving and Transit Logistics
We evaluated River Rock Casino Resort as a staging hub for exploring Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, and Vancouver Island ferry links. Situated at 8811 River Road in Richmond, immediately adjacent to the Bridgeport Canada Line station and major driving routes, the property offers distinct parking and transit advantages for road trippers.

Why Location and Parking Matter for Driving Trips
When we planned day runs around Metro Vancouver and the coast, staging a vehicle at a suburban hub like Richmond avoided the heavy traffic congestion and steep daily garage fees typical of downtown Vancouver hotels. River Rock sits right on River Road near the arterial approaches to Highway 99, Highway 91, and Oak Street Bridge, allowing drivers to head north into the city or south toward the USA border without wading through urban gridlock first.
The property's vehicle setup caters well to ordinary personal cars as well as bulkier vehicles. Registered hotel guests pay a daily resort fee of $19.99 CAD plus tax, which includes self-parking in the West lot. Valet parking is available for $33.00 per night. If you are travelling with an over-height vehicle or a tall van, over-height self-parking is offered in the East Parkade at $25.00 per night. Having these options directly on site makes it simple to unpack bags, store gear, and leave the car secure while exploring by foot or rail.
For those travelling across British Columbia by car, gaming rules on site are standard provincial law: entry to the casino floor requires guests to be 19 years of age or older with valid government-issued photo ID checked at the entrance. Gaming at the resort is conducted by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) and regulated by the Independent Gambling Control Office (IGCO). The resort property sits on Musqueam lands and has been owned since 16 June 2026 by a partnership of Petroglyph Development Group (Snuneymuxw First Nation) and Musqueam Capital Corp.
Combining Driving Days with Canada Line Transit
One of the strongest arguments for using the resort as a road-trip base is the ability to leave your car parked in the garage when visiting downtown Vancouver. Bridgeport station on the Canada Line sits across Great Canadian Way from the resort entrance. The train provides direct northbound service into central Vancouver, reaching Waterfront station in about twenty minutes without any parking headaches or city bridge delays.
Bridgeport station also serves as a major transit junction. The Canada Line splits here, with one spur heading west toward Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and the main line continuing south into Richmond. Standard TransLink fares apply (check TransLink for current zone structures and Compass card rates), though trips originating at YVR carry a $6.50 YVR AddFare fee. When heading downtown for sightseeing, dining, or events, taking the SkyTrain from Bridgeport allows you to keep your vehicle safely parked on site.
Day Runs from Richmond: Vancouver, Steveston, and Fraser Valley
Setting out from 8811 River Road gives drivers quick access to several popular regional day-trip routes:
- Downtown Vancouver and North Shore: Drive north over the Oak Street Bridge or Arthur Laing Bridge into Vancouver proper, or take the Canada Line into downtown and leave the car behind.
- Steveston Village: Head south through Richmond to Steveston village, Canada's largest small-craft commercial fishing port. Here you can explore historic waterfront sites such as the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site (a major salmon cannery operating from 1894 to 1979) and the Britannia Shipyards.
- Fraser Valley: Connect easily to Highway 91 or Highway 99 to travel east toward Delta, Surrey, Langley, and the agricultural stretches of the Fraser Valley.
- McArthurGlen Designer Outlet: Located nearby on Templeton Station Road (accessible by car or one stop away on the Canada Line spur), offering over 100 brand stores.
Note regarding evening activities nearby: the Richmond Night Market, which previously operated adjacent to Bridgeport station, closed permanently after completing its final season in September 2026.
Tsawwassen Ferry Connections for Vancouver Island and Gulf Islands
If your BC road trip includes Vancouver Island or the Southern Gulf Islands, River Rock serves as a convenient staging location before or after a ferry crossing. The Tsawwassen ferry terminal lies south of Richmond. Drivers can head south on Highway 99 through the George Massey Tunnel toward Highway 17, which leads directly to the terminal berths.
For travellers without a vehicle or those wishing to travel as foot passengers on BC Ferries, Bridgeport bus bay services include the 620 Tsawwassen Ferry express bus. Boarding the 620 bus at Bridgeport provides a direct public transit link to the terminal, allowing guests to leave their main luggage or vehicle behind at the resort if doing an overnight foot-passenger excursion across the Strait of Georgia.
Packing Advice and On-Site Amenities for Drivers
When packing for a road trip based at River Rock, prepare for both outdoor coastal weather and indoor resort facilities. Essential items to pack include:
- Layered clothing and rain gear: Pacific Northwest weather changes quickly, especially near the Fraser River arm and oceanfront ports like Steveston.
- Swimwear: Resort fee access includes the indoor pool with its water slide and hot tub, open daily from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
- Proper Identification: Bring matching photo ID and a valid credit card for check-in (a $100 credit card deposit or $500 debit deposit is required), plus government-issued photo ID for casino floor access (19+ only).
On-site dining options mean you do not need to leave the property after a long day behind the wheel. The ten dining venues include Gordon Ramsay Steak, Miku, KOI, Sea Harbour, Chopsticks Noodle House, Zio's, Rock House Burgers & Fries, The Chairman's Room Lounge & Buffet, Privé Bar, and Starbucks. For extra relaxation between driving legs, the Absolute Spa operates on Level 2 with six treatment rooms.
