BC Gambling Regulations and ID Requirements
In British Columbia, commercial gaming is conducted and managed by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) and regulated by the Independent Gambling Control Office (IGCO), which replaced the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch on 13 April 2026 under the Gaming Control Act. The venue operator acts as a service provider to BCLC on Musqueam lands.
You must be 19 years of age or older to enter the gaming floor. Minors are prohibited from participating in commercial gaming activities in BC. Since 2023, universal identification checks apply at entry. Every visitor must present government-issued photo ID to security staff at the door. Accepted physical ID includes a valid driver's licence, BC Services Card, passport, PR card, or laminated First Nations band membership card. Security scans the document against provincial databases to verify age and check self-exclusion status before entry is granted.

BCLC operates a voluntary self-exclusion programme known as Game Break. This programme allows individuals to exclude themselves from all commercial gaming facilities in British Columbia, including slot venues, commercial bingo halls, and the provincial gaming website PlayNow.com.
Key facts regarding the Game Break programme include:
- Terms: Enrolment periods are available for 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, or 3 years.
- Irrevocability: Once enrolled, a Game Break term begins immediately and cannot be shortened or cancelled under any circumstances.
- Door Enforcement: A photo is taken during registration and shared with venue security. ID checks at entry filter out enrollees.
- Encore Rewards: Upon enrolment, any associated Encore Rewards account is deactivated, and accumulated points are redeemed for cash according to BCLC rules.
- Expiry and Reinstatement: When the selected term expires, the self-exclusion remains active for an additional 12 months unless the individual completes the formal reinstatement process.
Enrolment can be completed in person at any BC casino with security staff, via video call by calling 1-866-815-0222 (press 3), or online through a PlayNow account.
