Seattle & Washington Route Guide

Driving from Seattle to River Rock Casino Resort

For drivers heading north from Seattle and Washington State, reaching River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond involves a straightforward run up Interstate 5, a border crossing at Blaine or Surrey, and a northbound trip along BC Highway 99. We mapped the interchanges, checked the garage turn-offs, and summarized what you need at the border and the check-in desk.

Start → From Seattle

  1. I-5 North from Seattle to the Border

Drive north on Interstate 5 through Washington State toward Blaine. Choose between the Peace Arch crossing at the terminus of I-5 or the Pacific Highway crossing via State Route 543, depending on border lane queues and NEXUS availability.

  2. Canada Border Services Clearance

Present a valid passport or NEXUS card for every vehicle occupant at the Canada Border Services Agency booth. Declare any commercial goods, duty-free items, currency exceeding $10,000 CAD, or restricted goods before proceeding into British Columbia.

  3. Highway 99 North through Surrey and Delta

After crossing the border, continue straight onto BC Highway 99 North. The highway carries traffic through Surrey and Delta toward the Fraser River.

  4. George Massey Tunnel Crossing

Pass through the George Massey Tunnel under the Fraser River south arm into Richmond. Driving time through this segment depends heavily on time of day and counter-flow lane operations.

  5. Exit 39 to Bridgeport Road and River Road

Take Exit 39 off Highway 99 North toward Bridgeport Road and Sea Island Way. Follow local directional signage toward River Road.

  6. Resort Arrival and Garage Entrance

Turn onto River Road to reach the resort at 8811 River Road. Proceed directly to the West lot for self-parking, the East Parkade for over-height vehicles, or the main entrance for valet service.

Border Crossings and Documentation

When travelling from Washington State to River Rock Casino Resort, your primary decisions begin at the border. Driving north on Interstate 5 brings you to two main passenger vehicle crossings near Blaine: the Peace Arch crossing (the northern terminus of I-5) and the Pacific Highway crossing (reached via Washington State Route 543).

Both border points connect directly to BC Highway 99 North. NEXUS cardholders can use designated express lanes at both locations during operating hours. Every traveller in the vehicle must carry valid identification, such as a passport, passport card, or NEXUS card. Drivers bringing children across the line without both legal parents present should carry a signed consent letter to present to Canada Border Services Agency officers.

Customs regulations require full disclosure of items brought into Canada. You must declare any agricultural goods, firearms, gifts intended for Canadian residents, tobacco products, and alcohol. If you carry physical currency or monetary instruments totaling $10,000 CAD or more (or equivalent in foreign currency), Canadian law mandates declaring it upon entry. Returning visitors should note that provincial cannabis laws forbid bringing any cannabis products across the international border in either direction, regardless of medical status or state legality.

Highway 99 North and the George Massey Tunnel

Once cleared through customs, Highway 99 North provides a direct line toward Richmond. You will pass through Surrey and Delta before approaching the George Massey Tunnel, which carries Highway 99 beneath the south arm of the Fraser River.

The George Massey Tunnel is a key choke point for regional traffic. We do not publish fixed driving times between Seattle or the border and the resort because traffic speeds through the tunnel vary wildly depending on peak commuter hours, counter-flow lane shifts, and weather conditions. Morning northbound travel and late-afternoon southbound travel generally experience the heaviest congestion. Checking provincial road cameras or regional traffic reports prior to departure helps gauge current conditions along the corridor.

Winter driving along the Highway 99 corridor rarely involves severe mountain snow, but heavy rain, coastal fog, and occasional freezing temperatures occur between November and March. Ensure your vehicle has functional wipers, good tire tread, and adequate windshield washer fluid suited for sub-freezing weather before leaving Washington State.

Approaching River Road and Garage Options

As Highway 99 North enters Richmond, take Exit 39 toward Bridgeport Road and Sea Island Way. Follow the overhead lane signs directing you toward River Road. The resort is located at 8811 River Road, situated right beside Bridgeport Canada Line station and the Fraser River waterfront.

When you arrive at the property, vehicle parking choices depend on your vehicle size and service preference:

  • Standard Self-Parking: Guest self-parking is available on upper levels of the parkade accessed via River Road on the west side of the complex. Hotel guests receive self-parking in the West lot as part of the daily resort fee ($19.99 CAD per room per night plus tax).
  • Valet Parking: Available at the main resort entry loop for $33.00 per night. If you need details on electric vehicle charging options, review our dedicated guide to EV charging on site and nearby.
  • Over-Height Parking: Standard garage decks have overhead height restrictions. Taller vehicles, lifted trucks, or vans must use over-height parking in the East Parkade at $25.00 per night. Detailed structural clearances and vehicle boundaries are outlined in our parking and garage access breakdown.

The resort features two main accommodation towers connected by an elevated Sky Bridge: the Hotel Tower and the Casino Tower. If you are staying overnight, verify your room category beforehand by reading our review of rooms across the two towers.

Hotel Check-In and BC Casino Regulations

Hotel check-in policy requires the primary guest to be at least 19 years of age. At check-in, you must present valid photo identification (driver's licence or passport) along with a matching physical credit card. The hotel holds a security deposit of $100 on a standard credit card (or $500 on a Visa Debit or Mastercard Debit) on top of room and tax charges. Prepaid cards are not accepted for registration deposits.

If you plan to visit the gaming floor during your stay, provincial regulations apply immediately upon entry:

  • Age Limit: Entry to the casino floor in British Columbia is strictly limited to adults aged 19 and older. Minors are not permitted on the gaming floor under any circumstances.
  • Mandatory Photo ID Scan: Every visitor entering a BC casino must show valid, government-issued photo ID at the entrance doors. Security personnel scan all IDs against the provincial exclusion database (including Game Break enrollees) prior to entry.
  • Regulatory Structure: Gaming operations in BC are conducted by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) and regulated by the Independent Gambling Control Office (IGCO). The venue operator acts as a service provider to BCLC.
  • Ownership Notice: Effective 16 June 2026, ownership of the River Rock Casino Resort property was transferred to a partnership between Petroglyph Development Group (wholly owned by the Snuneymuxw First Nation) and Musqueam Capital Corp. The resort stands on Musqueam ancestral lands.
