Desk Note: Parking an Over-Height Van or Small RV at River Rock

When travelling with a tall sprinter van, a roof-box setup, or a small recreational vehicle, multi-storey parking garages present immediate clearance worries. We examined the physical clearance options at River Rock Casino Resort, checked the published over-height rates, and logged where high-roof vehicles must go when arriving at 8811 River Road in Richmond.

clearance Limits and the Multi-Storey Garage

When we drove the property perimeter off River Road, the first thing we noted was that standard passenger vehicles and standard SUVs route directly into the main multi-storey self-parking structure on the west side of the resort complex. Standard parking in the West lot is included for overnight hotel guests as part of the daily resort fee. However, like most indoor garage structures built adjacent to urban hotel towers, the main parkade has standard ceiling clearance restrictions that will easily trim off higher sprinter vans, roof-top tents, cargo boxes, and commercial work vehicles.

If you are driving up from Seattle or entering from the Fraser Valley with a tall van, you cannot simply pull into the main West garage without checking your vehicle height against the posted portal limit. If you exceed standard clearance, forcing entry into the main parkade is impossible without risk of structural damage to your roof rack or vehicle ceiling.

The East Parkade and Over-Height Rates

For vehicles that cannot clear standard indoor garage ceilings, the resort designates over-height parking in the East Parkade. According to the resort's house rules, over-height self-parking is charged a nightly fee in the East Parkade. By comparison, standard valet service at the resort is listed at a higher nightly rate.

When arriving at 8811 River Road in Richmond with an over-height vehicle, do not pull directly into the main West lot self-parking ramp. Instead, approach the guest services or valet staging area near the resort's main entrance. We recommend stopping at the front driveway first, informing the valet or guest services team that you are checking into the hotel with an over-height vehicle, and confirming open surface or over-height stalls before driving into the East Parkade lanes.

What We Checked and What Remains Unverified

Our desk aims to maintain clear boundaries between verified resort facts and unverified logistics. We confirmed the published over-height rate in the East Parkade from official house rule documentation. However, several specific physical parameters are not published on the resort's official site or parking map documents:

  • Exact Height Clearance in Metres/Feet: The resort's digital pages do not state the exact maximum overhead clearance number for the West garage or the East Parkade structures.
  • Maximum Vehicle Length or Class Limitations: The published rules do not state whether full-sized Class A or Class C motorhomes can be accommodated, or whether the East Parkade is strictly limited to high-roof passenger vans and light trucks.
  • Hookups and Utilities: The resort is a casino hotel resort, not an RV park. There are no electrical, water, or sewer hookups for recreational vehicles anywhere on the property. Guests travelling in campers or RVs stay overnight as hotel room guests or self-contained parkers only.

Because the venue does not publish an official exact metre clearance figure online, any driver operating a tall vehicle should stop at the front driveway on River Road to verify access routes before attempting to park in the East Parkade ramps. Detailed comparisons of standard parking, valet, and garage access can be reviewed in our full guide to parking rates and the garage.

Arrival Advice and Alternatives for Heavy or Tall Vehicles

If you are driving from Vancouver or coming off Highway 99, handling an over-height vehicle at River Rock requires a straightforward plan:

  1. Have your hotel reservation details ready, along with a credit card and valid photo ID matching your reservation name. Note that casino entry and hotel check-in both require guest identification, and entry to the gaming floor is strictly 19+ in British Columbia.
  2. Pull into the main driveway loop off River Road near the entrance doors rather than entering the parkade ramp immediately.
  3. Ask the front desk or valet staff for direct guidance to the East Parkade over-height stalls.

If your vehicle is an oversized commercial motorhome or a towed travel trailer that exceeds standard stall dimensions in the East Parkade, off-site commercial vehicle parking in Richmond or near Vancouver International Airport may be required. If you are planning a multi-day stay with an over-height vehicle or have specific transit needs, check our additional desk notes or submit your vehicle specifications when making a reservation query through our desk.
