Our First Drive to River Rock: Navigating River Road, the Garage, and Check-In
When we first drove to River Rock Casino Resort at 8811 River Road in Richmond, we wanted to see how straightforward the arrival process was by car. Between reading the road signage off the bridge approaches, finding the garage entrance, and carrying luggage from the parking stalls into the lobby, here is exactly how our first drive played out.

Approaching River Road and the Initial Signage
Approaching 8811 River Road for the first time requires paying close attention to the road layout, especially if you arrive during peak afternoon traffic. As you head along the Fraser River waterfront and near Great Canadian Way, the resort footprint becomes obvious: the massive structures, the elevated Canada Line guideway leading to Bridgeport station across the street, and the multi-level parking parkades dominate the corner.
We found that keeping to the right lane on River Road gives you the cleanest shot into the resort access lanes. The property sits on Musqueam lands, and since 16 June 2026, it has been owned by a partnership of Petroglyph Development Group and Musqueam Capital Corp. The overall road layout around the resort remains unchanged, but clear lane selection is critical because missing the main turn off River Road forces a loop around Great Canadian Way.
If you are driving from Vancouver or coming into Richmond, give yourself extra buffer time. The merge points around the area can back up quickly. Once you clear the traffic lights on River Road, the resort entrance signage clearly splits visitors heading for guest registration, valet drop-off, or self-parking.
Navigating the Garage: Valet, West Lot, and Clearances
When we pulled into the driveways, the first decision was where to leave the vehicle. For overnight hotel guests, self-parking in the West lot is included in the resort fee. If you prefer drop-and-go convenience, valet service is available at the main resort entrance.
We chose self-parking to test the walk from the parkade stalls with standard rolling luggage. We followed the signs toward the primary garage structure on the west side of the building. The main parkade offers covered stalls from level P2 and above. Stalls marked for guest self-parking are clearly signed, though it is worth noting that certain designated spots are restricted for authorized pass holders or valet operations.
For travellers arriving in taller vehicles, standard multi-level clearance can be tight. Over-height self-parking is directed to the East Parkade. If you drive a standard sedan, crossover, or SUV, entering the West parkade is simple. We parked on P2, took note of our stall location, and gathered our overnight bags to find the internal footpaths.

Crossing the Sky Bridge with Luggage
One of the distinct features of the resort layout is how the structures connect. River Rock consists of two main accommodation towers—the Hotel Tower and the Casino Tower—linked by an elevated Sky Bridge. The Hotel Tower houses standard double and king rooms, while the Casino Tower contains the suite inventory.
From the West parkade elevators, clear signage leads directly toward the Sky Bridge corridor. Walking across the bridge with rolling suitcases was effortless on the smooth flooring, and the elevated walkway gives you an immediate elevated view of the Bridgeport transit plaza and the Fraser River waterfront. The Sky Bridge brings you directly into the main upper atrium level of the complex, placing you steps away from escalators and elevators descending to the central lobby desk.
If you are travelling with heavier luggage or broad stroller equipment, elevators sit right beside the Sky Bridge entry points. The route is entirely indoors, meaning you never have to drag bags through rain or across open vehicle lanes after leaving the parkade structure.
Front Desk Check-In and Gateway Rules
We reached the main front desk on the lobby level to complete check-in. The process is straightforward, but the front desk enforces standard provincial verification policies. The minimum check-in age is 19. You must present valid government-issued photo ID (such as a driver's licence or passport) along with a credit card in the same name.
The resort holds a refundable security deposit at check-in: $100 for standard credit cards or $500 if using a Visa Debit or Mastercard Debit. Prepaid cards are not accepted for the security deposit. Once registered, the clerk issued keycards programmed specifically for our assigned tower elevators.
Because the complex includes a 70,000-square-foot gaming floor conducted by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) and regulated by the Independent Gambling Control Office (IGCO), entry onto the casino floor strictly requires government photo ID for security scanning. Minors under 19 are permitted in the hotel towers, spa, and designated dining areas, but cannot step onto the gaming floor. If you want to know more about the property layout and amenities before booking, read the full review or examine details on rooms in the two towers.
